I wish I didn't have to be the one to tell you this, but at around 9:35pm (CST), our dear friend and fellow rocker, Captain Invisible, had his wonderful invisible life torn from him when he was senselessly mown down by a stampeding invisible mariachi band just outside of a Starbucks in Temple, TX.

Captain Invisible, best known for his phat beats and no-nonsense demeanor, will be fondly remembered by all of his friends and invisible relatives as a caring, decent, stand-up sort of invisible guy. We will miss you, Captain... we will miss you.

But, while the Captian will always be a major part of all of the music we make, we would like to announce some exciting news:

WES IS BACK!!!

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it's official. The one, the only (at least to our knowledge and excluding any sort of wacked-out mutliple-universe theories) Weslee Taylor Copeland has returned to Three Nails Short. Shocked and saddened by the untimely death of Captain Invisible, Wes was finally persuaded to postpone his career as a professional magician, and come back to hit things for us. (And, no, it has nothing to do with the fact that he is now the only member of TNS with a full-time band-funded salary.)

So join with us in welcoming Wes back! Even though he may not have a really cool title like "Captain", and, it's true, doesn't have any sort of naval background to speak of... we're extremely excited to be making music with Wes again. Besides, we could always give him a cool nickname later. I vote for "the Sultan". All in favor? Three. All-opposed-there-are-none.

God is good. Music is coming.

Over and out,
Chris

A TNS Birthday Story

Jon had a birthday last week (Jan. 16th... send guitar picks =), so Will and I (Chris) headed out to Lauren's (Jon's wife) family's ranch for some jammin and riding of four wheelers.

We made a lot of progress on some new tunes, and we've also made a big decision. The next album will be titled...

"Four Wheelers Rock My Face Off!"

Okay, maybe not. At least don't sue me if it's something else. But let's just say that if Switchfoot is a band of surfers, you can stop wondering what we are.

Anyway, here are some pics for your random viewing pleasure.

- Chris

<IMG style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px; We’ll see what you guys think. As soon as we have a pretty decent rough cut or two, we’ll send ‘em your way.

Peace, word, things like that.

C-Web

Still Alive in Music Land

Hey there. Chris Webster here. Good to see you.

First off, I'd like to say that it's strange having two Chris's in the band. I don't like to have to say my last name. From now on I will go by the pseudonym C-Web.

But on to more serious matters...

We've been out-of-pocket for a long time. Those of you still reading this are among the few hardcore listeners still around. As you may know, the make-up of the band has changed significantly over the past year and a half... Basically, the members of TNS have been dropping like flies.

[Here's the part were you go grab a nice hot cup of chai and settle in for a long, boring story from Grandpa. Make sure the chai is HOT.]

First we lost Wade Sommers on bass, for extremely complex and not-at-all-easily-summarized reasons.

So, we added Will van der Hoeven, partly because he plays a mean B-string; but mainly because he has the coolest name in the universe (or multiverse for that matter... or Bible verse for that matter).

Next there was Kevin Waden, our lead guitarist, who fell in love and ran of with his wife. Scandalous.

Then Weslee Copeland hopped on a train out west to become a magician. Or something like that. We're not exactly sure.

Finally, Brian Bandas, our lead singer, rode a miniature unicycle to Nashville, and is on the road becoming the next Bono. Except younger. And not in a band called U2. But somehow still the next Bono.

Which left... well, Will and I. My theory is that Will scared everyone off with his devilish good looks.

But, nonetheless, we have pressed on. We invited Chris Kelly to come hit round things. And Jon Webster, my dear older brother, to bring the Mozart. Because, well, let's face it: keyboards are big and shiny and just really, really cool.

And then, when we least expected it...

We all got married. Except for Chris. He did that earlier.

THE END.

So where are we now? Still here. No matter how hard the world may try to rip us apart, no matter how many band members fall by the wayside, the legend of Three Nails Short will prevail. We just won't quit. It's sick, really.

But, really, Three Nails Short has evolved into a pretty durn nifty ministry through the years, and we'd like to keep it that way.

ALL THAT TO SAY...

New music is on the way. We're gearing up for the studio, and we hope you'll like what you hear. Who knows when TNS will hit your town. It could be very soon. But probably not, because we'll be in the studio this spring.

But keep the hope alive. What kind of crazy musical stunt will we pull next? You'll just have to stay tuned in and see what heppens. That's all there is to it. But don't give up. Here's a sampling of some of the titles of tracks on our upcoming CD (subject to radical change, of course).

Torn Between
Walking for Gas
In My Veins
Nevergone
My Soul Waits

Be good, kids.
C-Web

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Well said...
- Chris
----------------------------

Why Worship?
by John Fischer

I will worship God today because it is good and right to do so.

I will worship God today, not because of what it will do for me, or because it is popular, or because it is Sunday, or because I like the worship music, but for the simple reason that I was made to do this. To worship God is what I am here for.

Worship is not an asset. It is not an added benefit to my life like working out or taking vitamins. Nor is it a secret formula that will add a deeper dimension to my life. Worship is raw. Basic. Worship is the air I breathe. It is the blood pumping through my veins. It is the cells in my body that reproduce and keep me alive for this. Everything else I do is extemporaneous. To worship God is the root of my being. To not worship is to miss the fundamental reason for my existence.

Worship is what happens when you get in touch with God. Something about it is automatic. When any human being encountered a vision of God in the Bible, the same thing happened: they hit the dirt. It was the natural response. Some of that was fear, some of that was worship as expressed by awe and respect. Much of it was feeling little and insignificant in His sight. That's part of worship too, because we are. That's why it is so amazing that He is mindful of us. That He even notices us. (Psalm 8)

And because He loves us so much, and knows how far away we can stray from our stated purpose, and how much damage we can do to ourselves and others in the process, He has commanded us to worship Him. We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Luke 10:27). That's not because He is arrogant, but because He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our fulfillment is in Him... There is no ultimate satisfaction until God is in His rightful place in our lives.

Think of it as God commanding us to do what we were meant to do. God is commanding us to do the one thing that will make us deeply satisfied and forever fulfilled. That's a twist, because we're so used to laws being overbearing, backbreaking spoilers of our fun. This is a law that commands us to do what will be our delight for now and for eternity.

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

So I’ve been wondering; what is it exactly that makes a good worship leader? Obviously there’s not really a formula, per se, and I’m talking about excluding the semi-obvious answers (God’ anointing, musical talents, etc.), but I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on what exactly it was about a worship leader that you may have encountered I the past that made them a good facilitator of worship. Any thoughts?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Good times. We had a blast leading worship and hanging out, although we got to do a lot less of that than we would have liked. The skits were great. Jon ended up playing Star Wars theme music on his keyboard for one of the skits. For my part, I pitched in by throwing plasticware at a girl.. with incredible comic timing, I might add. All in all, things went great. I got sick, but Brooke made a trip to the local pharmacy and bought about 5 different kinds of medicine. The rest of the weekend, for some reason, was really swell. Just kidding. Wives are great, though. I highly recommend them.

Anyway, that's about it for now. Keep praying that we'll have a free weekend or two coming up to be able to record. Time's tight these days. Looking forward to the four day weekend we have coming up here pretty soon. I'm tossing around the idea of spending some of it canoeing in Austin on town lake. Good times.

Oh yeah, and before I forget, Jon's birthday is on Monday. If we were Switchfoot, we'd write a song about it.

That's all. Take it easy, everyone.

Peace,
Chris

Thursday, January 05, 2006

Finally, in the studio…

Spent the day laying down some keys on two originals and a
great cover of “Sing to the King” for my friend Joey Witham today. Joey is one
of my best friends here in Dallas, and
a great example of honoring God through music both in the local church and
around the nation. We worked with acclaimed producer Casey Diiorio at Valve Studios,
where such national acts as Bowling for Soup have recorded. It was unbelievable
to hear the songs come together and be a part of it. I still struggle to
understand how God uses music when we aren’t even there, recorded on a little
disc. David Crowder, one of my heroes, put it this way while they were recording
a few months ago:

I'm looking at these speakers
moving, in and out, in and out and
I'm thinking, “how can that thing
moving the surrounding air make
these things move in my soul?” movement
provoking movement.
I fell more in love with God today.

I felt the same way, and only one thing could have
made the
day better. That would be to have the rest of the boys from TNS here,
recording our songs. We know this is what we're called to do, which is
exciting but frustrating because it takes so long. Thanks
so much for believing in us, your prayers are appreciated. The new
stuff is
coming. It rocks. God willing, we’ll be back in the magical place known
as the studio soon.
